Decolonizing Garden Education – February 15, 2023

The global Covid-19 pandemic created multiple challenges and tragedies and changed the way many of us operate professionally and personally. It also highlighted the importance of being outdoors and learning from the land. It forced us in garden education to rethink our systems, structures, and values. Hear how Grow Portland, one small school garden nonprofit, explores new initiatives to center equity and inclusion by facilitating BIPOC farm partnerships, incorporating Indigenous knowledge frameworks, diversifying staffing, and prioritizing professional development focused on uprooting white supremacy constructs. Listen for a vulnerable, ongoing learning journey with a critical conversation of diverse perspectives led by Djamila Moore.
